Singapore Changi Airport
UISEE's L4 Autonomous Shuttle Bus B19 and Autonomous Electric Tractor T30 helped Singapore Changi Airport launch fully driverless airside staff transport operations.
Background
Singapore Changi Airport ranks among the world's busiest aviation hubs, handling thousands of flights daily with extensive ground service operations. The apron service department, a critical safeguard of normal airport functions, faces enormous and complex staff transport needs. Traditional staff transport relies heavily on manual driving. As airport operations continued to grow, the demand for efficient, safe, and intelligent transport solutions became increasingly urgent. In this context, UISEE's Autonomous Shuttle Bus (AV Bus) project was launched to explore new transport models and optimize internal airport staff commute. On January 20, 2026, after nearly a year of rigorous testing and more than 5,000 trial runs, UISEE’s autonomous vehicle fleet, including Autonomous Shuttle Buses and Autonomous Electric Tractors, officially commenced airside operations at Singapore Changi Airport.
Challenges
Efficiency Issues: The expansive apron area faces severe traffic congestion during peak hours. Manual driving constrained by driver reaction time and road conditions makes it difficult to pick up and drop off staff on schedule, extending commute times and undermining work efficiency and operational rhythm.
Safety Hazards: The apron has numerous vehicles and equipment with frequent personnel movement. Manual driving is prone to fatigue and operational errors, risking traffic accidents that endanger staff lives and airport operations.
High Operating Costs: A large fleet of manually driven vehicles requires numerous drivers, creating substantial labor costs. Rising vehicle maintenance, servicing, and fuel expenses add to the airport's operational burden.
Solution
Deployed: L4 Autonomous Shuttle Bus B19, L4 Autonomous Electric Tractor T30
Technology: U-Drive® Intelligent Driving System (Gen 5)
Impact
Efficient Deployment: Leveraging extensive experience from the Hong Kong Airport project, UISEE and Singapore Changi Airport achieved highly efficient collaboration. The project took only one year from initial contact to successful deployment, significantly shortening the project preparation and implementation cycle.
UISEE's autonomous driving project has delivered remarkable results in apron staff transport at Changi Airport, building valuable experience for the airport's further adoption of autonomous driving technology and providing a model for intelligent airport operations worldwide.
